I think my country had a general election? Who knows.
I've been a little too engrossed in getting this daily series to notice much else happening. Let's not forget, however, that we saw possible GOTY Witcher 3 this month, and the hiring of a new Giant Bomb East staff member (though technically he doesn't start until June 1st). It's been an interesting May, yet although we've seen a few noteworthy releases it feels more like everyone's gearing up for E3. A gift that was perhaps less "heartfelt" and more "determined by an automatic lottery monitored by a cold, unfeeling computer program", but just as appreciated all the same.īefore we get any deeper into the game - and yes, it will be in the traditional Comic Commish screenshot LP format followed by a one-of-a-kind MS Paint comic - I want to wind up this feature officially.
I originally acquired everyone's favorite border patrol simulator Papers, Please (developed by 3909 LLC in 2013) in one of the site's frequent Steamgifts giveaways, which still technically counts as a gift. For that reason, today is both the final day of Mento's May Mastery and this month's Comic Commish.
After an hour or so of play, my boyfriend had to be the one to say, "Okay, that's enough checking shit! Let's GO OUTSIDE.Like the great nation of Arstotzka, I've learned how to be economical with my limited resources. And I suppose I can appreciate just how fucking stressful it is to work border control. I'm pretty amped to see if I can juggle the EZIC story line with the regular day job, as I was initially planning to be a loyal communist piece of shit to everyone without credentials (b/c family). I laughed too hard when he came back with the hand-drawn passport. (And I was able to finally detained that one douche who would have sold out that one broad and killed her.) Jorji is, by far, my favorite person. Still, for a bit, I had to alternate between heat and food, until I got the $1,000 from the EZIC people. I showed my boyfriend the game, and we played it together, so there were less mistakes probably than with just me playing. This second play through I'm on is a lot better, I guess. I'm pretty sure I only made it to Day 7, which is terrible. Then rent went up, so everything was doubly shit. Also, my entire family was sick and cold and dying because my wages were shit. The first time around, I wasn't use to the game mechanics, so I received the first ending (I think?) for getting too many mistake notices.
I can't deal with this much stress on a Saturday morning. My nerves were so shot, I made a bunch of additional mistakes on top of the intentional ones I needed to make to nab the Obristani passports, so by the end I only had enough money for myself and my son to escape, leaving the rest of my family behind, and at the mercy of the state. And of course, since there's no legitimate reason to ever confiscate a foreigner's passport, your last few days have to be flawless.
So in two days, you need to confiscate 5 Obristan passports (you get one free from Jorji, but I also had the niece), and also I needed $150 to pay the counterfeiter for the six of us. And you only get access to Jorji's guy two days before your audit. So each fake passport costs $25, and you need to confiscate one legit Obristan passport per family member for Jorji's guy to modify. I just finished my first playthrough, and this is the ending I got. I haven't seen it for myself but apparently in that one he gives you fake passports to help you and your family escape the country if you tell him about the audit. I think there's an ending that involves Jorji Costava. I should play it again and try to not fuck up this time. Hope you and your whole family like prison!" Which is apparently ending 4 out of 20.
So since he didn't fix things, the government finished their investigation like a day later, and said "Hey, you accepted a lot of money from some real shady characters. Supposedly he was going to fix things for me? I was supposed to let in a second Ezic guy, but I think I sorta glossed over his name, and only later in the day did I check the name I should be looking out for and go "Aw crap, I think I might have denied a dude with that last name". Sure enough, the government confiscates my savings several days later pending an investigation. I admitted the first guy, and took his offer of $1000, even though I knew that surely this would bite me in the ass somehow later. I decided to aid the weird Ezic organization (think that's how it is spelled), because fuck The Man and this shitty low-paying job that he gave me. I imagine a lot of the story events are fixed, so this thread will probably be riddled with spoilers.
